12th CYCLE DEDICATION
SOTAH 40 (30 Sivan) - Dedicated by Dr. Alain Bitton of Geneva, Switzerland, in memory of his grandmother, Freha bat Haviva Bitton a"h.

SUMMARY

It is a Machlokes whether the Tzibur recites a Tefilah between each Berachah of Birchas Kohanim or during the Hazkaras ha'Shem.

It is a Machlokes whether the Tefilah of the Tzibur is broken up and recited in segments or if it is recited all at once and then repeated for each Pasuk of the Birchas Kohanim.

It is a Machlokes whether the Tzibur recites a Tefilah during the Birchas Kohanim outside the Beis ha'Mikdash. (2)

A person should be fearful of the Tzibur.

The Kohanim may not go up to the Duchan with their shoes. (1)

In the Mikdash the Kohanim recite the three Berachos of Birchas Kohanim all at once because Amen is not recited in the Mikdash.

When the Kohen Gadol reads from the Torah on Yom Kipur the Chazan ha'Keneses takes the Sefer Torah and gives it to the Rosh ha'Keneses who gives it to the Sgan.

The Sgan gives the Sefer Torah to the Kohen Gadol who stands up to receive it and he reads from the Parshah of Acharei Mos and Ach b'Asar. (2)

The Kohen Gadol rolls up the Sefer Torah and he says 'more than I read is written here' and he reads by heart uv'Asar in Parshas Pinchas. (3)

The Kohen Gadol recites 8 Berachos: for the Torah, Avodah, Hoda'ah, Al Mechilah for our sins, for the Mikdash, Yisrael, Kohanim Yerushalayim and the rest of the Tefilah.

Only a King from Beis David may sit in the Azarah. (4)

A BIT MORE

1. Because of the possibility that his shoelaces will snap and while he is busy tying them he will miss the Birchas Kohanim and people will assume that he is a Chalal.

2. The Sefer Torah was rolled from the Parshah of Acharei Mos until the Parshah of Shor Oh Chesev because it is very close and it can be rolled there while the Metargem is translating the last Pasuk of Acharei Mos.

3. He reads the Parshah of uv'Asar by heart because it takes a long time to roll the Sefer Torah until there and it is not Kavod ha'Tzibur to make everyone wait.

4. In the Ezras Nashim it is permitted for everyone to sit.

BRIEF INSIGHT

AMEN IN THE MIKDASH

In the Mikdash the Kohanim recites the three Berachos of Birchas Kohanim all at once because one does not say Amen in the Mikdash. Tosfos asks that even though they did not say Amen in the Beis ha'Mikdash they said Baruch Shem and they fell on their faces when they heard the name of Hashem and that it is a bigger delay than saying Amen. Tosfos answers that they said Baruch Shem when they heard the name of Hashem but they did not say anything at the end of the Pasuk and therefore there was no break between the Pesukim.

QUICK HALACHAH

MALCHUS BEIS DAVID

If one of the relatives of the king dies the king does not leave his palace. When the people are Mavrim the King (first meal for a mourner) everyone sits on the ground and the king sits on a stool. If a king who is a descendant of David enters the Azarah he may sit because only one who is from Malchus Beis David may sit in the Azarah. (Rambam Hilchos Melachim 2:4)
