Question

SUMMARY

A Nazir and a Kohen Gadol may become Tamei to a Metzora and to a Zav.

A Kohen may be Metamei to his brother from his father but not to his brother from his mother.

A Nazir may be Metamei to a dead animal.

A Mes is Metamei b'Ohel but a Neveilah is not Metamei b'Ohel.

A Kohen Gadol does not bring a Korban when he becomes Tamei to a Mes, while a Nazir does bring a Korban.

A Nazir may be Metamei to a Mes Mitzvah.

A Kohen Hedyot may be Metamei to his relatives.

If someone is on his way to do a Bris Milah for his son or to bring a Korban Pesach and one of his relatives dies he should not be Metamei. (1)

If he is on his way to the Mitzvah and he comes across a Mes Mitzvah he should abort his trip and bury the Mes Mitzvah. (2)

A Kohen Gadol who is a Nazir may be Metamei to a Mes Mitzvah.

A BIT MORE

1. He should continue on his way to the Mitzvah.

2. Even at the expense of doing the Mitzvah.

BRIEF INSIGHT

If someone is on his way to do a Bris Milah for his son or to bring a Korban Pesach and one of his relatives dies he should not be Metamei. Tosfos explains that the Mitzvas Aseh of being Metamei to a relative does not supersede the Mitzvas Aseh of a Bris Milah or Korban Pesach because the Mitzvos Aseh of Milah and Pesach are punishable with Kares.

QUICK HALACHAH

A Kohen who comes across a Mes Mitzvah must be Metamei to him and even a Kohen Gadol is obligated to be Metamei to him and bury him. (Rambam Hilchos Avel 3:8)

Even a Kohen Gadol who is a Nazir must be Metamei to a Mes Mitzvah because once the Torah permitted one Lo Sa'aseh for the purpose of burying a Mes Mitzvah, what is the difference between one Lo Sa'aseh and two. (Radbaz)
