BRIEF INSIGHT

MODESTY AND TORAH

If a person makes himself Hefker like a desert the Torah is given to him as a gift. A person who makes himself Hefker is a modest and self effacing person and those are the Midos necessary for the acquisition of Torah. Moshe Rabeinu was the most modest person on earth and that is why he merited to receive the Torah. Immodesty and arrogance are the opposite of the Torah and a person with these characteristics cannot become a Ben Torah. (Maharal)
