SUMMARY

The Amora'im disagree about whether we should recite the blessing of Yotzer ha'Adam among the Sheva Berachos of Birchas Chasanim. (1)

If there are no new people (Panim Chadashos) present at the Sheva Berachos, we say only ha'Simchah b'Me'ono and Asher Bara. (2)

From when the seven days of Sheva Berachos are over, until the end of 30 days, we say ha'Simchah b'Me'ono, when we eat at a Se'udah together with the Chasan and Kalah.

From after 30 days until 12 months, if we make a Se'udah in honor of the Chasan and Kalah, we say ha'Simchah b'Me'ono.

Prior to the wedding, from the time that they start making the beer, if we make a Se'udah in honor of the Chasan and Kalah, we say ha'Simchah b'Me'ono.

We do not say ha'Simchah b'Me'ono at a Bris Milah because the child experiences pain.

The Chasan is included in the Minyan for the Birchas Chasanim.

Rav and Rebbi Yochanan maintain that the mourners are included in the Minyan for the Birchas Aveilim.

Everyone knows why a Kalah goes under the Chupah, but anyone who speaks about it is punished by having even a decree of 70 years of good turned to bad.

A person should never open his mouth to the Satan. (3)

The Rabanan instituted 10 cups of wine in the house of an Avel.

At first, the expenses of the Mes were more difficult for the relatives than the actual death. Then, Raban Gamliel instructed that he should be buried in plain linen Tachrichim, as a precedent for the way all others should act. (4)

A BIT MORE

1. Levi: We do not say the Berachah of Yotzer ha'Adam, because Hashem created Adam and Chavah together in one body, and therefore the Berachah of Asher Yatzar suffices. Rebbi Asi: We say both blessings, because according to the master plan of Hashem, Adam and Chavah will end up having two separate bodies and we go by the plan, not by the actual creation.

2. Ha'Simchah b'Me'ono is not one of the Sheva Berachos; it is said at the beginning of the Birchas ha'Zimun.

3. This is learned from Yeshayah who said, "We were like Sedom, we are comparable to Amora," and Hashem then said "Listen to the words of Hashem, the officers of Sedom."

4. At first they used expensive materials for the Tachrichim. Then, Raban Gamliel instructed that he should be buried with plain linen Tachrichim, and from that point on the people followed his lead. (4)

BRIEF INSIGHT

TWO SEPARATE CREATIONS

Rav Asi maintains that we say both Yotzer ha'Adam and Asher Yatzar, because Hashem planned to separate Chavah from Adam so that they would end up having two separate bodies, and we go by the plan, not by the actual creation. If Hashem planned on separating them, then why did He create them as one entity in the first place? The answer is that Hashem wanted that Adam would first feel the need for his Zivug prior to the creation of Chavah so that he would be appreciative to Hashem for the great gift that he was given. (Ge'on Yakov)

QUICK HALACHAH

MATERIAL USED FOR TACHRICHIM.

It is forbidden to bury a Mes in expensive Tachrichim. (Shulchan Aruch YD 352:2)

This Halachah is a Tikun ha'Olam, because the poor do not have the wherewithal to buy expensive Tachrichim. It is also regarded as haughtiness and a destructive waste of money. The Nimukei

Yosef says that anybody who makes nice Tachrichim is displaying that he believes in Techiyas ha'Mesim. However, the Tachrichim must be made from linen and should not be too expensive, but they should be decent. (Shach)
