Question

SUMMARY

The Gizbar (treasurer) of Hekdesh who takes into his possession an item of Hekdesh does not have to bring a Korban Me'ilah. (1)

There are many verses in the Torah regarding Nega'im, but few explicated Halachos in Mishnayos. With regard to Ohalos, it is the opposite. (2)

According to Rebbi, if a person intends to kill one person and instead kills another, he must pay money.

Holachah, or the bringing the blood of the Korban to the Mizbe'ach, is regarded as an Avodah, and all of the Halachos of the Avodah apply to it.

A Mikvah must contain enough water to immerse a person's entire body. This is the amount of 40 Se'ah of water.

A Sheretz (rodent) the size of a lentil transmits Tum'ah. (3)

Non-Jews are liable for the transgressions of blasphemy, idolatry, and Arayos (immoral relations).

It is prohibited to teach the secrets of Arayos to three students at once. (4)

The Yetzer ha'Ra of a person craves Gezel and Arayos. (5)

A person should not inquire about what preceded this world, or about what is beyond the parameters of this world.

A BIT MORE

1. If the Gizbar uses a stone of Hekdesh to block a sky window, then if he benefits from it the amount of a Perutah, he must bring a Korban Me'ilah.

2. Therefore, if a person is in doubt about a Halachah in Nega'im, he should look in the verses. If he has a doubt about Ohalos, he should look in the Mishnah.

3. The reason is that a snail at the beginning of its formation is the size of a lentil. Rebbi Yosi bar Yehudah says that it is because the tail of a lizard -- which is sometimes as small as a lentil -- continues to move after it is cut off from the lizard.

4. When the laws of Arayos are taught to two students at once, while one of the students is in discussion with the teacher, the other student is paying attention. If, however, the Rebbi would teach three students at once, then while one of the students is in discussion with the Rebbi, the other students would engage in their own discussion and possibly arrive at wrong conclusions in the laws of Arayos.

5. A person only covets Gezel when it is in front of him, while he covets Arayos even when it is not in front of him.

BRIEF INSIGHT

The Gemara says that it is prohibited to teach the laws of Arayos to three students at once. Rashi says that the laws of Arayos include the prohibition of relations with one's daughter from a woman out of wedlock, and a grandmother-in-law, even though they are not explicitly written in the verse. The Maharsha explains that these laws of Arayos refer to the understanding of the prohibitions of some of the Arayos which are difficult to understand. An example is the prohibition of one's sister, since the world was built on the basis of the marriage between Kayin and his sister. Another example is the prohibition against marring two sisters, which is difficult to understand because Klal Yisrael is based on the marriage of Yakov with Rachel and Leah.

QUICK HALACHAH

A woman cannot purify herself from her Tum'ah by washing in a bathhouse. Even if all of the water in the world falls on her, she remains Tamei until she immerses her entire body at once in the waters of a Mikvah or in a spring that contains 40 Se'ah. The Mikvah must be at least one Amah by one Amah with a height of three Amos (using an Amah comprised of is six Tefachim and half an Etzba wide). If the Mikvah is wider than the minimum width at the expense of its depth, it is valid if the woman is able to immerse her entire body in it at once. (Shulchan Aruch YD 201:1)

The minimum size of a spring applies only to the immersion of a person who is Tamei. In contrast, for the immersion of Tamei utensils, a spring has no minimum size. (Taz)
