________________________________________________________ REVIEW QUESTIONS prepared by Rabbi Eliezer Chrysler of Kollel Iyun Hadaf ![]() daf@dafyomi.co.il, www.dafyomi.co.il Rosh Kollel: Rabbi Mordecai Kornfeld ________________________________________________________
(a) When may one read the Megilah on one's own, according to Rav, and when does one require a Minyan? (b) What does Rav Asi say? (c) What happened once when Rav had no Minyan on the fourteenth? In light of his personal opinion, why did he do that? (a) Rav is quoted as saying that, when Purim falls on Shabbos, its time is on Friday. What is surprising about that statement? (b) How do we therefore try to amend it, but in a way that leaves us with a contradiction in Rav (who said earlier that when the Megilah is read not in its regular time, it requires a Minyan)? (c) How does Rebbi Aba Amar Shmuel finally explain Rav's latter statement in a way that it conforms with his earlier one? (a) Why, when Purim falls on Shabbos, do we bring it forward (rather than postpone it)? (b) What does Rebbi Aba Amar Shmuel learn from the Pasuk in Bo "l'Chodshei ha'Shanah"? (c) What is an example of this? (d) And what do the Rabanan of Caesaria quoting Rebbi Aba learn from the Pasuk in Beha'aloscha "Ad Chodesh Yamim"? What is an example of this? (a) When Tisha b'Av, the Korban Chagigah or the Mitzvah of Hakhel fall due on Shabbos, they are postponed. Why do we postpone (rather than advance) ... 1. ... Tisha b'Av? 2. ... the Chagigah and Hakhel? (b) We learned in a Beraisa that one postpones, not only Chagigah, but also 'the time of Chagigah'. Rav Oshaya explains that this refers to the Olas Re'iyah. What does the Tana mean to say? Who is then the author of the Beraisa? (c) Rava learns that the Tana is coming to restrict the time of the Chagigah; Rav Ashi, that he is coming to extend it. What is the Tana saying according to ... 1. ... Rava? 2. ... Rav Ashi? (a) Beis Hillel agree with Beis Shamai that if Shavu'os falls on Shabbos, then Yom Tavo'ach takes place after Shabbos. What is Yom Tavo'ach? (b) In which case do they then argue with Beis Shamai? (c) What are their respective opinions? 5b----------------------------------------5b (a) Rebbi Chanina testified that Rebbi did three controversial things with which the Rabanan disagreed: He testified that he did something on Purim, that he bathed on Shiv'ah-Asar b'Tamuz in the market-place of Tzipori at the time when the wagons drove past, and that he wanted to rescind Tisha b'Av. What did he mean by 'something on Purim'? (b) When Rebbi Aba bar Zavda amended the third testimony, Rebbi Chanina quoted the Pasuk in Koheles "Tovim Shenayim min ha'Echad"). What did Rebbi want to do according to Rebbi Aba bar Zavda's amendment? (c) What is the significance of the quotation? Who said it? (a) What does the Tana of Rav Yosef's Beraisa learn from the Pasuk in Esther ... 1. ... "Simchah"? 2. ... "u'Mishteh"? 3. ... "v'Yom Tov"? (b) What is wrong with the suggestion (in an attempt to reconcile this with Rebbi who planted a sapling on Purim), that Rebbi (who was a townsman, whose Purim fell on the fourteenth) planted the sapling on the fifteenth? (c) So we switch round the facts. In fact, Rebbi's Purim fell on the fifteenth, and he planted the sapling on the fourteenth. How do we then resolve this with Chizkiyah (who also lived in Teverya and) who had a Safek whether Teverya was a Mukaf or not? (d) When did Chizkiyah used to read the Megilah on Purim? (a) How does Rava interpret the ruling in Megilas Ta'anis forbidding a Hesped both on the fourteenth and on the fifteenth? (b) How will we reconcile this with Rebbi? (c) Then why did Rav curse that man whom he found sowing flax-seeds on Purim? (d) This entire Sugya to date is based on the Pasuk in Esther "Simchah u'Mishteh v'Yom-Tov". What does Rabah brei d'Rava extrapolate from there (absolving Rebbi altogether)? (a) According to Rabah bar Rava's conclusion, why did Rav curse that man whom he found working on Purim? (b) How will we explain the fact that Rebbi planted saplings on Purim even if a similar Minhag was practiced there too? (c) We learn this from the Mishnah in Ta'anis, which states that if the thirteen fasts past and still no rain came, one minimizes (among other things), planting a tree of Simchah and building a Binyan shel Simchah. What is a Binyan shel Simchah? (a) What do Hatzidim, Tzer, Chamas, Rakas and Kineres have in common? (b) What is Rakas better known as? What unusual feature does it have that caused Chizkiyah to doubt whether it falls under the category of Mukafin or not? (c) What does the Beraisa learn from the Pasuk in Behar ... 1. ... "Asher Lo Chomah"? 2. ... "Saviv"? (d) Then why does Chizkiyah even contend with the possibility that Teverya might be a Mukaf? Why might the Din of Mukaf on Purim differ from that of Batei Arei Chomah? (a) To which tribe did the town Hutzal belong? (b) According to the first Lashon, Rav Asi is not sure whether Hutzal was surrounded by a wall from the time of Yehoshua bin Nun or not. What does he hold, according to the second Lashon?
