Shachar Brown asked:

Where exactly was the Lishkat Beit HaEven ?

It doesn't appear in Massechet Midos or in the Tiferet Yisrael diagram there. Was it known by another name ?

Thank you.

Shachar Brown, Jerusalem, Israel

The Kollel replies:

Dear shachar

Thanks for your excellent question. The Kollel received a similar question last week, regarding the location of another Lishkah. I'm enclosing the answer which was sent out then, and I think it addresses your question. I'm also sending you to a website with pictures from Rav Zalman Koren's model. Note that to the right of the Ezras Nasim there is an elevated platform. Rav Koren first faced the dilemma what to do with this platform which he felt must have been dictated by the topography. Later he assumed that this must be the correct location for the Lishkas Beis Ha'even, which is indeed adjacent to the northeastern corner of the Azarah.

Ruby Ginsberg asks:

I don't see the Lishkah of the Shekalim in the Tifferes Yisrael's diagram. Do we know where it was?

Thank you.

Ruby Ginsberg, KGH, NY, USA

The Kollel replies:

Dear Ruby

Thanks for your excellent question. The answer is we do not. There were numerous Leshakos in the Har HaBayis and the Azarah for various functions, but since there is no mention of them in Chazal, we really have no information about them. The Rambam (Beis HaB'chirah 1:7) states that in the Azarah chambers were built for the various functions and each one is called a "Lishkah".

The rosh in Middos (2:1) explains that the vacant areas of Har HaBayis had many Leshakos built there.

So as you see, we do not have many details about the location and/or function of each Lishka.
