DAF DISCUSSIONS - SANHEDRIN 107

Shabtai Nacson asked:

The Gemarah says that D'or Hamidbar don't have a chelek L'-Olam Haba and then mentioned that Korach V'Adato also don't have a Chelek L'Olam Haba. Is that a repetition? Since Korach was part of D'Or Hamidbar.

Shabtai Nacson, Toronto,Canada

The Kollel replies:

Dor ha'Midbar refers to those who died because of the sin of the Meraglim, at the beginning of the 40 years. Korach was a Levi and was not included in the Gezeirah (Bava Basra 121b). "His Edah" refers to the young men of his group, who were born in the Midbar.

Neil Blavin writes:

I have heard in the name of Rabbi Kessin that the reason the dor HaMidbar do not have a chelek is because since the revelation from the Makkos, Krias Yam Suf, Mannah, and of course, Matan Torah was so complete, they really had a limited ability to sin. Since the reality of Hashem was so tangible for them, as it will be in the future after Moschiach, their true bechirah was small.
