Avodah Zarah Chart #3b

Avodah Zarah Daf 25b

WHEN IS IT PROHIBITED FOR A WOMAN TO BE ALONE WITH A NOCHRI
BECAUSE HE MIGHT KILL HER OR BECAUSE OF ERVAH (according to Tosfos)?
  (A)
A WOMAN AMONG NOCHRI MEN
(B)
A WOMAN AMONG NOCHRI WOMEN
1) A WOMAN WHO IS IMPORTANT(1) Killing: Not at risk
Ervah : Machlokes(3)*
Killing: Not at risk
Ervah : Not at risk
2) A WOMAN WHO IS NOT IMPORTANT(1) Killing: Machlokes(2)
Ervah : She is at risk
Killing: Machlokes(2)*
Ervah : Not at risk
* According to Tosfos, these are the *two* cases that the Gemara mentions as differences between the opinions of Rebbi Yirmeyah and Rav Idi. According to Rebbi Yirmeyah, such a woman is *prohibited* from being alone with Nochrim, while according to Rav Idi, such a woman is *permitted* to be alone with Nochrim.

FOOTNOTES:
==========
(1) Tosfos defines "important" ("Chashuvah") as "related to nobility," as Rashi explains. According to the Yerushalmi that Tosfos quotes, "Chashuvah" refers to a woman who is strong (and can protect herself).
(2) According to Rebbi Yirmeyah, a woman who is not important is at risk of being killed. According to Rav Idi, even a woman who is *not* important is not at risk of being killed, because she has her "Klei Zayenah Aleha" (she is able to persuade the Nochri not to kill her, but to keep her for immoral purposes).
(3) According to Rebbi Yirmeyah, even an important woman is at risk of Ervah, as is evident from the Mishnah according to his explanation. According to Rav Idi (who explains that the Mishnah is referring to a woman who is not important), a woman who is not important is not at risk of being killed, nor is she at risk of Ervah.
